Hong Kong lesbian couple conceives twins via IVF!
Hong Kong lesbian couple welcomes twins via IVF: A journey of love and parenthood
Parenthood is an important life stage that often follows love and marriage. Every couple in love should have the right to take this step together.
Today’s story is about a special couple—both women, one a columnist and the other a designer. They share hobbies, love life, and frequently travel together. They met in university and, after nearly a decade of ups and downs, are now happily settled in Hong Kong. Despite family objections and occasional challenges, their love remained steadfast.
Ms. Qu, the columnist, has always loved children and dreamed of having one herself. After turning 30, this desire became particularly strong. She once said, “If I have a child, I’ll buy her beautiful clothes, prepare school lunches, take her on field trips—just thinking about it makes me happy.”
In 2022, the couple reached a consensus and communicated their plans with both families. They began exploring IVF, carefully considering the implications of raising a child in a non-traditional family. Ultimately, their shared desire to be mothers, as well as their time and financial stability, reassured them that they could provide a loving home.
Through online research, they learned about IVF for lesbian couples and connected with our clinic. They chose the United States as their IVF destination to ensure a legal and safe process. Using both partners’ eggs and the same donor, they aimed to have a pair of twins—a boy and a girl—with Ms. Qu carrying the pregnancy while her partner supported her throughout.
Fortunately, everything went smoothly—from egg retrieval to fertilization and embryo cultivation. The transfer was successful, resulting in a male-female twin pregnancy confirmed in July 2022. The couple spent nearly two months in Thailand during stimulation and transfer, exploring nearby attractions and markets, before returning to Hong Kong. Prenatal checkups showed that the babies were developing perfectly. In September 2023, the twins were born safely.
Ms. Qu reflects, “Lesbian relationships aren’t fleeting; as long as two people walk in the same direction, they can go far together.” Indeed, every family, whether a lesbian couple or a gay male couple, has the right to raise children. When thoughtfully considered, parenthood is about love, responsibility, and creating a happy life—regardless of societal expectations.
