After 8 years of trying, a Taiwanese couple finally welcomes a baby boy!
Having a loving partner by your side and children around you is the dream of many families. For some, this joy comes easily, while others must endure years of physical and emotional challenges. Ms. Chen, a 39-year-old from Taiwan, was once among those facing such struggles.
From campus life to marriage, from being spouses to partners in work, Ms. Chen and her husband shared over a decade of ups and downs together, living life to the fullest. Yet, they faced the regret of having no children. From age 30 to 38, over eight years, they continuously visited hospitals—Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, large hospitals, small clinics—trying everything. They attempted natural conception and countless IVF cycles, but due to endometritis and a poor uterine environment, each attempt ended in disappointment.
Repeated failures left Ms. Chen feeling disheartened. During a casual chat with a friend, she learned about surrogacy. “Both my husband and I love children deeply. Perhaps it was my strong desire to have a child that made me suggest the idea of ‘gestational surrogacy’ to my husband,” she shared. After careful consideration, in 2023, the couple contacted Uterus International Medical through a friend and signed a surrogacy agreement.
In March 2023, Ms. Chen and her husband traveled to the Royal Phnom Penh Clinic in Cambodia. Following a series of tests, doctors retrieved their eggs and sperm and successfully created three healthy embryos. On June 6, 2023, a male embryo was implanted into the chosen surrogate mother’s uterus. Fortunately, the surrogate successfully became pregnant. On February 2, 2024, Ms. Chen finally met their long-awaited baby.
Persistence pays off. It was the unwavering determination of Ms. Chen and her husband that made their family of three possible. As Ms. Chen said, “This process was full of hardship and struggle, but I’m grateful for my choice. The moment I heard the baby cry, all the past difficulties melted away.”
