Multiple IVF failures overcome; assisted reproduction finally brings a healthy baby!
Every family dreams of having a beloved child, but for many, that joy is delayed. Today, we share the story of a couple who, after a decade-long IVF journey, finally welcomed a healthy baby boy. Though the path to parenthood was long and arduous, persistence ultimately bore fruit.
1. From Trying Naturally to IVF: Hope and Disappointment
Ms. Lin and her husband from Shanghai got married in 2014. For the first two years, being young and career-focused, they didn’t rush pregnancy and thought it would happen naturally in time. However, four years passed with no success. By 2018, the couple grew anxious and began undergoing various medical examinations. The results revealed blocked fallopian tubes. Following her doctor’s guidance, Ms. Lin underwent treatments to restore fertility, including tubal recanalization, but after a year, there was still no improvement. On medical advice, they decided to try in vitro fertilization (IVF).
While having their own child was a dream come true, the process turned out to be far more challenging than imagined. Between 2019 and 2021, Ms. Lin and her husband followed the doctor’s guidance through a series of preparations: blood tests, hormone injections, ovulation induction, egg retrieval, embryo culture, and transfer. To optimize the chances of success, they adopted a strict pre-pregnancy regimen, quitting smoking and drinking, exercising regularly, and committing full-time to fertility preparation.
Despite their efforts, success remained elusive. They underwent five IVF cycles, including attempts overseas, resulting in three failed embryo transfers. Doctors suspected issues with the endometrium might be the cause.
During this process, Ms. Lin endured both physical and emotional stress. She shared, “This journey was incredibly tough. If it weren’t for my husband constantly comforting me, supporting me, and persisting alongside me, I wouldn’t have had the courage to keep trying. His care made me long even more for a child of our own.”
2. Overseas Surrogacy: A Decade-Long Dream Realized
In 2022, Ms. Lin learned about third-party surrogacy through a support group for women undergoing fertility treatments. Through this channel, she contacted Uterus International Medical and shared their situation. In June 2022, they officially signed with us and began their fertility plan.
By August 2022, the couple traveled to Japan, successfully creating two healthy embryos. These embryos were then transported to Southeast Asia and implanted into a surrogate mother. After a period of anxious waiting, they received the wonderful news: the surrogate was successfully pregnant.
On a day in September 2023, at the obstetrics ward of a hospital, Ms. Lin and her husband prepared to welcome their child. Though the baby had never been in her womb, she said, “I want to see him the moment he is born!” At 22:15 that evening, their child was successfully delivered.
"A full ten years," Ms. Lin said, "and the moment I heard our baby cry, all the hardships and efforts finally bore fruit." From infertility to IVF to surrogacy, this journey was filled with challenges and obstacles. Yet for many families facing infertility, IVF combined with surrogacy may represent the final hope to fulfill their dream of parenthood.
