Singaporean Chinese couple, both aged 40, travel to the U.S. for IVF!
DINK (Dual Income, No Kids) and having children are simply two different paths in life—they aren’t opposites. It’s not about proving which is better; it’s about choosing what suits you at a given stage. Life twists and turns, and following your heart matters most.
Today’s story is about a DINK couple from Singapore. The husband runs his own company, and the wife is a designer with her own studio. For years, they firmly adhered to the DINK lifestyle. However, as they grew older, they started feeling a sense of emptiness and gradually longed for the companionship of a child. So, they made a serious decision: to have a baby.
By then, both were nearly 35. Despite actively trying to conceive for a year, nothing happened. They went for comprehensive medical checkups and discovered that the husband had low sperm count, while the wife had diminished ovarian reserve. With limited options, they considered IVF and, through a friend’s introduction, approached Uterus International Medical and decided to undergo IVF in the U.S. After detailed discussions with our staff, they gained a full understanding of the American IVF process. Based on their medical reports, the doctor created a tailored IVF plan for them.
In April 2022, after optimizing their health, the couple began their IVF journey in the U.S. With one stimulation cycle, the eggs reached the required standard. The husband completed sperm retrieval successfully, and four high-quality blastocysts—two boys and two girls—were created, all passing PGS screening.
In October 2022, the wife successfully underwent embryo transfer. The IVF journey went surprisingly smoothly, though there was a minor hiccup: the first implantation resulted in a miscarriage. After adjustments, the second transfer was successful, and the pregnancy progressed steadily. During the ten months, the couple felt immense happiness, eagerly anticipating the baby’s arrival.
In June 2023, their baby boy was born, weighing 3,260g! Overwhelmed with joy, the couple said upon seeing him: “We finally waited for you, our child.” Now, nearly a year later, they reflect on life with their child: although daily routines revolve entirely around feeding, comforting, and diapering, they truly enjoy this new chapter.
Choosing DINK in youth is a lifestyle; choosing to leave the DINK path in midlife is another. Life and perspectives change, and whether one chooses DINK or parenthood, it always stems from genuine desire.
